Important Info For Those With Confirmed Registrations – 2013

We are so excited to share this celebration of Dayton’s ideas worth spreading.

Here’s the main information you’ll need if you received confirmation of your registration.

[box type=”alert” size=”large” style=”rounded”]There will be NO tickets available at the door! The 2013 event is completely sold out![/box]

How to Dress – Dress is business casual

How to attend and parking:  The event is at Victoria Theatre (138 North Main Street, Dayton, OH 45402)

More specific directions can be found on the Victoria Theatre webpage. The Transportation Center has 700 spots available for TEDxDayton attendees. It is $4 per car to park in that garage all day. RTA will run a shuttle from the Transportation Center to the Victoria Theatre from 8:00 to 9:15 and then from 4:30 to 5:30. Pick up and drop off points are at 5th and Main and 1st and Main. If you’re looking for a little exercise, it is a 10-15 minute walk from the Transportation Center Garage to the theatre.

When you get there: Registration and seating opens at 8:30 am. All guests must be seated by 9:00 am. We ask that you please leave time in the morning to pick up your name badge and program. You do not need a ticket to retrieve your name badge. Coat check is available, and we invite you to grab a coffee or pastry. Once you have your name badge and program, you are free to mingle, use the restroom, etc.

The day: There is no morning break, so if you don’t want to miss a single moment, please plan accordingly. Though you are welcome to exit and enter the theatre between talks. We will break for lunch at noon. We ask all patrons to quickly make your way to the Wintergarden in the Schuster Center. Your box lunch will be available for pick-up and lunch is open seating. All restrooms in the Schuster will be open at that time. Talks will resume promptly at 1:00 pm. We will have an afternoon break with refreshments and the stage content will end about 4:30 pm.

Now, a 3-2-1 guide for what to expect and what to bring:

Open seating. Some guests may be designated to sit in the upper level, but whether you are in the balcony or in the orchestra, you can expect to (and our encouraged to) sit in different places throughout the day. We have a packed house so expect to sit further up and further in. We want to pack the house with energy!

A totally open mind. Don’t come with an agenda and, in return, you will get immeasurable knowledge, inspiration and provocation.

A willingness to sit next to, or engage in a conversation, with strangers. TED events are about community. This is the opportunity for people from many disciplines to engage and collaborate around new ideas. Take advantage of that.

And our one request:

This event is sold out. There are people who want to be there but can’t be there. So if someone asks you why you came and, in fact you were sent by your boss or otherwise are attending under some obligation, go ahead and share that–“I was told to come.” But don’t forget to add–“I got lucky.” And, should you find you can’t say that with honesty, please consider releasing your ticket to someone else. We’ve worked hard to make this an incredible event. We know that the success of TEDxDayton is the result of what each and every person there brings to it.

WHAT IS TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxDayton, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxDayton event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
