Who is Herbert? He taught literature and creative writing for more than three decades at the University of Dayton, where he became a professor of literature and poet-in-residence. He has been associated with editing and performing the work of Paul Laurence Dunbar, the 19th-century poet and novelist. He’s written nine volumes of his own poetry, including the recently published On The Flyleaf issued by Bottom Dog Press of Huron, Ohio. He has acted as librettist for a number of American composers, including Adolphus Hailstork, Joseph Fennimore and Philip Carl Magnuson.
