Tess Cortés is a digital media artist, curator, and Gallery Coordinator for Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Her work has been exhibited and screened nationally and internationally including at the Riffe Gallery in Ohio, Bedford Gallery in California, and VIP Art Gallery in Serbia. She received an MFA in Electronic Art from the University of Cincinnati and a BFA in Painting from Wright State University.
Tess’ art, Untitled (cityscape), is a single channel digital video. It depicts Dayton as a slow-moving and fragmented landscape. To accompany her, Jacob Rhodes will play Paul Smadbeck’s Rhythm Song, one of the most popular solo marimba works of all time. A simple melody to start evolves to complex rhythms and harmonies, giving the piece a jazzy, ethnic feel.
Jacob Rhodes is currently a junior percussion performance major at Wright State University, and is also the assistant band director at Greenview High School, directing the Drumline and Front Ensemble. Jacob has performed alongside members of the Cleveland Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis
Symphony Orchestra, and the Dayton Philharmonic.
