October 26, 2020 (DAYTON, Ohio) — For the first time, this year’s TEDxDayton will be…
July 24, 2019 (DAYTON, Ohio) — Tickets are on sale now for the seventh annual TEDxDayton Signature Event, happening at the Victoria Theatre in downtown Dayton on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019.
As in years past, TEDxDayton’s biggest event will feature a full slate of locally connected speakers who will share their “ideas worth spreading” on topics ranging across science, education, design, technology, art, history, culture and more. The day will also include performances by artists, dancers and musicians from the Dayton area.
The event runs from 12:15 to 5:30 p.m. The afternoon’s program will include two intermissions with snacks and beverages.
Tickets cost $50 per person and can be obtained at www.ticketcenterstage.com/TEDxDayton.
“We hope people will get their tickets early,” said Ron Rollins, who is co-chairing the event with John Owen and Bridget Hutt. “Our Signature Event at the gorgeous Vic has sold out each of the last six years, and we know there are a lot of fans who have been with us year after year. Folks look forward to this.”
Hutt, a former TEDxDayton speaker, reflected on this year’s talks and on the year’s theme, “Connect.”
“Our differences can divide us if we let them, but our connections unite us, whether we like it or not. Strike up a conversation with any person on the street, and guaranteed you’ll be able to find things you have in common,” Hutt said. “This year’s TEDxDayton lineup is jam-packed with speakers from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and professions. What they have in common is passion and a desire to connect with you and with all our Dayton neighbors, to share ideas worth spreading.”
Downtown Dayton restaurants and stores are also participating in the fun, offering discounts and quick options for TEDxDayton attendees. For the full list of venues, visit tedxdayton.com/signature-event.
In addition to the Signature Event each fall at the Victoria Theatre, the locally based TEDxDayton organization each year also produces TEDxYouth@Dayton, with talks by local high-schoolers, and a series of TEDxDaytonSalon events, which happen in smaller venues and focus on particular topics three times a year. About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, often in the form of short talks delivered by leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED conferences, including our annual gathering in Vancouver, as well as TEDWomen, intimate TED Salons and thousands of independently organized TEDx events around the world. Videos of these talks are made available, free, on TED.com and other platforms. Audio versions of the talks from TED2019 will also be published to TED’s podcast TED Talks Daily, available on Apple Podcasts and all other podcast platforms.
TED’s open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; TEDx, which licenses thousands of individuals and groups to host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities; the Audacious Project, which surfaces and funds critical ideas that have the potential to impact millions of lives; TEDSummit, which gathers the most engaged members of the global TED community for brainstorms, discussions, performances, workshops and an eclectic program of mainstage talks; and the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED also has a library of original podcasts, including The TED Interview with Chris Anderson, Sincerely, X, and one of Apple Podcasts’ most downloaded new shows of 2018, WorkLife with Adam Grant.
